The byPicker Story

byPicker is a site for pickers and collectors of fine antique or collectable items

byPicker has been an idea of mine for some time. I have another web site, www.MudSweatandTears.com, that would email antique pottery collectors anytime I added something that matched their interests. Well, I reasoned, how cool would it be to have a website that could do this for multiple dealers and a diverse crowd of buyers. So that is the basic idea behind byPicker.

I always felt like one of the drawbacks of selling online was the time it took to list items, whether it was on MudSweatandTears, ebay or wherever. It got to the point where I almost never listed anything. So, byPicker needed to be faster and more direct. Given the popularity of smart phones like the iPhone, I embraced this as the medium for byPicker. byPicker works fine on a computer but is designed to shine on handheld device like the iPhone.

Using an iPhone (or similar device) you snap a picture and type in a short blurb about you "pick". How quick and easy is that? And you can do this as you find things, while you are out there a pickin'. No need to trudge back to the shop and sit down in front of a computer. The beauty of this is that buyers get your message instantly and can call or email you right away, so you practically sell as you buy. When they call, you can fill them in with any extra details they may need or even forward them the picture you took, straight from your phone. So you spend time looking and not listing.

As a buyer or collector, you can filter the picks you receive based on keywords, distance, and sources. Once that is done there is no need to spend hours searching online. When a picker finds something you might like, you instantly get an email or text alert and can contact them right away. The early bird gets the worm. Ha! How easy is that?

As byPicker grows, it will simply get better and better. So join and get your "picks" in.
